The Power of A Prayer

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.”

—Philippians 4:6 (TLB)

Some times, life feels like it comes in pieces, and sometimes those pieces don’t fit or they fall apart. Part A doesn’t always fit Part B, and the struggle can feel overwhelming, with something inevitably missing. Who among us doesn’t face an area of life that isn’t working?

When the pieces don’t fit, how do we respond—in frustration, anger, or prayer? I’d love to say I always turn to prayer, but the truth is, I’m a recovering prayer wimp. My mind wanders, my focus zigs and zags, and if there’s an attention deficit for prayer, I’ve got it.

Yet, I know there’s power even in simple prayers, as Mary, the mother of Jesus, showed us at a wedding in Cana. When the wine ran out—a small crisis in an ordinary celebration—she didn’t panic or prescribe solutions. She simply told Jesus, “They have no wine” (John 2:3, NKJV). No bossiness, no criticism, no blame—just a faithful presentation of the problem to the One who could handle it.

Mary’s example points us to Philippians 4:6. She entrusted the need to Jesus and left it there, trusting Him to act in His way and time. Jesus, moved by her faith and love, turned water into wine, saving the celebration.

When life feels broken, we’re tempted to worry, fix, or fault-find, but Mary models a better way: state the problem simply, present it faithfully, and trust humbly. Like her, we can take every ill-fitting piece to Jesus, knowing He hears and responds with love.

Dear Father, You are good. Help us lay our problems at Your feet without striving to solve them ourselves. Thank You for hearing our cries and answering faithfully. In Jesus’ Name we pray, AMEN.
