Making God Proud: Living Faith Through Action

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

–Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

(Written by Kat L.)

When I read the words of James, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2:17), I’m reminded of times that I reached out to help someone simply to do so, with no thought of personal gain. It’s not about recognition or reward—it’s about knowing I’d reflected God’s love in a small, tangible way. My actions weren’t grand, but they were intentional, and I believe they made God proud.

When we step out in faith to meet someone’s need—whether it’s a kind word, a helping hand, or simply being present—we show the world what God’s love looks like. Our deeds don’t earn His approval; they flow from a heart transformed by His grace, pointing others to Him.

Living out our faith isn’t always about big gestures. Sometimes, it’s the small, everyday choices—like stopping to listen, sharing what we have, or showing compassion—that honor God most. These moments not only bless others but also reflect His heart to those watching, from neighbors to family to strangers.

My hope is that my life, in both the big and small moments, makes my Heavenly Father proud, not because I’m perfect, but because I’m faithful.

Dear Heavenly Father, I want my life to honor You. Guide my words and actions so they reflect Your love and bring others closer to You. Give me eyes to see the needs around me and a heart bold enough to act. May my faith shine through my deeds, not for my glory, but for Yours. Thank You for Your grace that empowers me to serve. Forgive me for the times I have been weak. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
