Psalm 51:1-3, 9-12
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
[King James version]
(Commentary by Anneta G.)
We all have days when we wish God would just take a great big eraser and wipe the slate clean. Maybe there are days when we feel like all the water in the ocean couldn’t wipe away our mistakes, sins and shortcomings.
Maybe we feel there’s so much pain and bitterness in our heart, it’s impossible to heal or ever feel joy again.
But this is exactly why Jesus paid the price for our sins, by shedding His own blood on the cross of Calvary. When we are willing to acknowledge our sin and humbly ask the Lord for forgiveness, He will wash away the stain of our wrongs and restore our joy.
In His mercy, God wants to blot out our bitterness and pain, and give us a clean heart and a right spirit.
“Dear Heavenly Father, soften my heart today, and help me to just bend to Your will. Help me to allow Your cleansing, and to be willing to be emptied of every selfish thought or wrong desire, that You could make me new, strengthen my faith and restore my joy. For Jesus’ sake I pray. Amen.”
