A MAN AFTER GOD’S HEART

But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

1 Samuel 13:14

(written by Kat L)

Just who is this “man after God’s own heart” in the Bible?  Let’s talk about David. He made mistakes, but he was a man who really wanted to please God. A sinner like the rest of us, David had to face his bad choices and atone for them. But even with all of the really bad things David did, God couldn’t find anyone else like him.

I believe David is a great example of the kind of person God wants to use. He sought a personal relationship with God, stayed faithful when it was difficult, and prayed with all his heart to be a man God could mold and use.

When we read the Bible, we need to study the lives and stories of the people in it to learn how to be men and women who follow God’s heart. We need to see where, when, and why God used them for His glory.

If we want to be men and women who seek God’s heart, it starts with prayer.

Our Father in Heaven, we love You. We respect You, and we are so thankful for Your blessings. We know that we will fall short of perfection today, but here we are with our hearts open to You. Only You can lay Your grace upon us to make us whole again, through Christ’s sacrifice. Let Your Spirit be our guide, and help us to be people who seek Your heart. In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
