Romans 12:1-2

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

[King James version]

(Commentary by Anneta G.)

History books are never written about people who just ‘conformed’ to this world.  And this verse reminds us that God doesn’t want us to conform to the world.  It’s not in His plan.

Instead, God asks us to be “transformed”… but the first verse makes it clear how that is to happen… by submitting our lives to God’s will.

Lately my heart has been moved to think about all the people over the course of my life who have made the greatest impact on me… those who have encouraged me, inspired me, motivated me, and prayed for me.

And in every case, it has been people who were not conformed to what the world expected of them, but who presented their lives to the will of the Lord, who proved His mercy and love each day.

Dear Heavenly Father, We thank You for the life You’ve given us, and we understand we only have one life to live, only one life to give to You. Help us to never just go along with what this world would choose for us or expect of us, but to conform to YOUR will. Help us to rise above all the noise and chaos and be a voice for truth and righteousness. And teach us daily how to simply say, ‘Not my will but Thine be done.’ In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

In the video below, Rory Feek and his late wife, Joey, sing the beloved hymn, “I Surrender All.”
