Loved by our Creator, chosen as His own

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

-1 Peter 2:9

(Written by Kat L.)

Have you ever wondered why God would love a sinner like you? Thankfully, you can rest assured that He does. God loves us unconditionally, whether we love Him back or not.

It’s important to understand this because love is the most powerful force in the universe.

God is pure Love.

Since God is Love and He created us in His image, He has planted in us the nature to love and care for others. Throughout the Bible, He asks us to do this unconditionally.

If we were to follow God’s laws, there would be no war, crime, or ill will. We would have peace with our neighbors, and kindness would reign. Sadly, humankind is narrow-minded. We live in the here and now, not for the future. We ignore God‘s laws and abide in our flesh.

Mercifully, our God is Love and His heart is full of grace and compassion. As Love is the substance of God’s nature, He will never give up on us. He hates the sin, not the sinner.

Paul describes God’s love in 1 Corinthians 13:1-8:

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. …”

God will love you when nobody else will, even when you feel like you don’t deserve it or when you feel that you’ve made it impossible for Him to love you. He is still there, even when you turn your back on Him. You will never be unworthy of His love. You will always be forgiven if you accept His son Jesus, Who wipes away our sins.

Our Father in Heaven, we just thank You today for Your love. We thank You that no matter what we do, no matter how low we get, You still love us and call us Your own. God, help us to be better. Grant us the wisdom to seek a life of peace under Your perfect law. Help us to be worthy of Your great love. Let us be a blessing to everyone we come into contact with, shining Your love on them so that they, too, may know the great peace that comes from being Your child, a follower of Your son, Jesus, and a person saved by Your grace. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, AMEN.
