MORNING DEVOTION (October 11)

BLESSED WITH DISTRESS

If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.

Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.

Proverbs 24:10-11

[Written by Kat L.]

Sometimes I long for a life without tough problems, but then God reminds me that they have a purpose. Without trials, we’d face serious problems because God uses them for our good.

The proverb says we’re weak if we lose our strength in distress. Weakness includes giving up, getting discouraged, or disheartened in adversity. That’s why God gives us trials. They teach us to fight when things get tough. Only then can we learn from God and grow in our faith.

Through trials, we learn how to make our hearts stronger and to fill our minds with God’s Word. We learn when our thinking is off and we’re easily led astray. This is important for our faith growth.

It’s tough to learn we’re not as strong as we thought during a trial. But when we do, we realize God is the only strength we’ll need in any trial.

Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for Your guidance and wisdom. You are a good father who wants to see us grow and learn. Through times of adversity and worry, we pray that You would strengthen our resolve and help us to be warriors for Your Word.

In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
