Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Commentary from Anneta G.

A shepherd’s sole mission is to care for his flock of sheep, protecting them and making sure they have good places to graze.  Life is busy and messy, and the world is loud, confusing, and always in an uproar.  But I love the reminder that we have a Shepherd in Christ.  He cares for us, and wants to keep us close to Him.

No matter what’s going on around us, we can always find rest and peace if we’re close to our Shepherd.  If we find ourselves feeding on anything that’s not good for our spirit, we know we’ve wandered away from the Shepherd, but Jesus will always lead us to restoration and truth and blessing.  May we each stay close to the Shepherd of our soul today.
