James 3:3-5
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

Commentary from Anneta G:
Words can sometimes be more powerful than all the armies in the world, and these verses remind us that we need to be so careful with our tongue. We’ve all heard the phrase, “Mind your tongue!” Well, it’s true.
As the scripture above explains, our tongue can determine the course of our life, just as the reins direct a horse, or the rudder steers a ship. Words can cause wars, or heal broken relationships. Are we speaking truth? Are we building others up, or tearing them down? Do the words we speak line up with the life we live? Are the words we speak how we would want to be remembered?
Dear Heavenly Father, please give us wisdom, to speak the words that would be from Your spirit. Help us to offer words of encouragement and hope to someone who needs it. And give us discernment, to know when to speak and when to keep silent and just pray. Please guide our words today.
