The Holy Art of Resting

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

We often treat self-care as a luxury or selfish indulgence. We push our bodies to exhaustion and our minds to the brink of burnout, believing that constant busyness is necessary to life.

But 1 Corinthians 6:19 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Taking care of yourself is not selfish—it is stewardship.

When you rest, you are admitting that you are not God. You are acknowledging your human limitations and trusting that God sustains the world even when you are not working.

Jesus himself often slipped away from the crowds to rest and pray (Mark 6:31). If the Savior needed rest, how much more do we?

True self-care is honoring the Creator by tending to the creation.

Lord, thank You for designing me and caring for me. Please forgive me for pushing myself too hard and for failing to honor my need for rest. Show me how to set boundaries and take care of my mind, body, and spirit. I trust You with my endless to-do list. I take this moment to rest in Your presence and be refreshed. Amen!
