Psalm 1:1-2

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

[King James version]

The late Jim Rohn, a highly renowned motivational speaker, used to often say, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Rohn would explain that we are often influenced by the people we surround ourself with, either for good or bad.

This scripture makes the same point, warning us not to seek advice from those who don’t love the Lord.

But, there’s blessing from God when we truly love to serve Him and find joy in doing His will. In doing so, our lives can then be an influence for GOOD to others.

“Dear Heavenly Father, help us to seek Your will today, to come to You for advice and wisdom, and may our lives be a light shining through the darkness to help another. We thank you for every person who has inspired us and given us godly advice, and encouraged us to serve You. And most of all, we’re grateful for Jesus, who shed His blood to cleanse us from our sins. Guide and keep us today, because it’s in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
