Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

[King James version]

Commentary by Anneta G:  These verses remind us that it’s not our own works that God is looking for.  Instead, our Heavenly Father wants us to invite Him to do His work in our hearts and lives.

Last week, I watched a glass blower take a shapeless blob of hot, melted glass on the end of a pole and transform it into a beautiful glass pumpkin ornament.  The glass was put into the fire to soften it even more. The artist blew into the pole to expand the glass. He turned it, used tools to get it exactly the right shape, and kept returning it the fire repeatedly until he was satisfied that it was just right.

In many ways, that’s the way God works with us.  We are His workmanship, and often it’s the hard, fiery experiences that God uses to teach us and mold us into a useful vessel for Him.

The hymn below is one of my favorites. “Let Him Mould Thee” was written by Ada Ruth Habersohn (1861-1918.). It is believed the hymn was released sometime around 1900.
