Isaiah 40:31 (New International Version)
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
(Commentary by Kat L.)
The eagle’s power isn’t in flapping its wings frantically, but in patiently waiting. It locks its wings, scans the sky, and trusts the invisible updraft to lift it higher. Billy Graham once said that when we “wait on the Lord,” we’re not just sitting around doing nothing; we’re positioning ourselves. Our trials, like strong winds, can actually be the currents that carry us upward — if we let God use them. Waiting on Him doesn’t mean we’re doing nothing; it means we’re leaning into His timing, trusting His strength, and letting His Spirit be the wind beneath us.
The daughter of a former Chinese governor understood this well. She didn’t ask why God allowed her to be sick for so long; she just asked, “What do You want me to do?” That’s the attitude of true faith. As Christians, we trade impatience for trust and fear for quiet surrender, knowing that our lives are safe in His hands. During hard times, we see beyond the present moment to the eternal joy ahead. When our hope is fixed on Heaven, the trials of today become short-lived, and our hearts can soar—just like the eagle—on the promise that we will run and not get tired, walk and not give up.
Dear Lord Jesus, You are awesome in all of Your ways. Thank You for being the invisible Hand that guides us, lifts us up, and sustains us. Please grant us the wisdom to seek You, and to let You be our salvation, comfort, and peace.
