Luke 23:33-34
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Jesus paid the price for our sin that no one else ever could, and then still had the strength to ask the Heavenly Father to forgive those who crucified and mocked him. He could have saved Himself, as the mob taunted Him to do, but instead, He stayed on the cross, because He knew OUR salvation was at stake.
