According to a new FOX Business report, Boeing is laying off 396 employees in Washington state as part of a 10% global workforce reduction that will impact about 17,000 jobs.
Over the coming months, 2,199 workers in Washington and 200 more in Oregon, South Carolina, and Missouri will lose their positions. According to Boeing, “only a very small number” of employees will be laid off in December, “while the majority will exit in mid-January.”
“Eligible employees will receive severance pay, career transition services, and subsidized health care benefits up to 3 months after exiting the company,” the company said previously.
The layoffs and unfilled vacancies aim to restructure Boeing after a challenging year marked by a mid-air panel failure on an Alaska Airlines flight and a halt in 737 MAX production due to a West Coast strike.
“As previously announced, we are adjusting our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities. We are committed to ensuring our employees have support during this challenging time,” Boeing previously said to FOX Business.
