From Daily Mail: Idaho Governor Brad Little said in a recent speech that ‘COWs’ were one of his state’s current challenges, but he wasn’t talking about livestock.
Little explained that the acronym referred to West Coast residents from liberal states, California, Oregon, and Washington, fleeing to Idaho.
The Republican went on to say that Idaho has become a ‘desirable place to relocate,’ noting that almost a third of the population moved to the state within the last 10 years.
Speaking at the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho Conference, Little said, “Our tax climate is a significant draw for people across the nation. In fact, Idaho’s real challenge today is the number of ‘COWs’ — newcomers from California, Oregon, and Washington.
“We joke about it, but it reflects something real — Idaho has become a victim of our own success.”
Little said Idaho’s tax policy, made possible in part by “conservative budgeting,” is part of the draw.
“It is worth noting every state is dealing with fluctuations in revenue — how you deal with those fluctuations depends on the values of the elected leaders,” Little said.
