Billionaire Elon Musk donated $10 million last week to a super PAC backing Kentucky Senate candidate Nate Morris (R), who is running to replace Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
The contribution to Fight for Kentucky is Musk’s largest single donation to a Senate candidate. Musk, the world’s richest person, previously gave at least $250 million to President Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Morris, 45, launched his bid to succeed retiring Senator Mitch McConnell last June on Triggered with Donald Trump Jr., pitching himself as a business-minded outsider who would “give this seat back to the people.” A George Washington University graduate, Morris founded waste management firm Rubicon Technologies and now serves as CEO of Morris Industries.
Morris also criticized Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R), two other Republican candidates, as “McConnell-ites.”
“This race is going to be very, very simple: it’s a referendum on Mitch McConnell’s record. It’s a referendum on Mitch McConnell’s legacy,” he added.
Musk, who briefly led the Department of Government Efficiency last year, had a falling-out with President Trump — partly over GOP-backed tax and budget legislation signed into law in July.
Despite the rift, Musk later appeared alongside President Trump at the funeral of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, attended a White House black-tie dinner honoring Mohammed bin Salman, and reportedly dined with Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. He has since told Republican operatives he plans to spend heavily in the midterms.
Meanwhile, through the third quarter of last year, Morris loaned more than $3 million to his campaign committee, Morris for Senate, and raised over $1 million in contributions, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
