MANY THANKS: The Trump dance delivers a viral moment of joy amid a sea of grief

The president of the United States has a signature dance move, and to the delight of many, it was on display this week when we needed a distraction.

On Thursday night, the ‘Donald Trump dance’ made a comeback to the sports world. Three Major League Baseball stars paid tribute to the president during his appearance at Yankee Stadium.

President Donald Trump defied those who would use violence to silence others as he attended a major league game between the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers on September 11 – the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks –  just one day after an assassin killed political activist Charlie Kirk, ostensibly in an attempt to silence him (although an official motive has not been revealed.).

Before the game even started, Trump had a fun interaction with the Yankees in their clubhouse. Then three of their rivals, Tigers stars Dillon Dingler, Gleyber Torres, and Wenceel Perez, brought the “Trump Dance” back to the field.

Throughout the game, the trio each imitated Trump’s signature hip shimmy and arm shake, which had become a popular move for the Commander-in-Chief on the campaign trail last year.

After each of them successfully reached base in the second inning, Dingler and Perez, who is Dominican, performed the dance. Meanwhile, Venezuelan star Torres, a former Yankee, followed suit in the third inning.

Up in the stands, Trump himself joined in, performing his signature move.

As America was reeling from the sudden and horrific death of Kirk, and reliving the sorrow and shock from the memories of 9/11, Trump and the patriotic trio delivered a series of lighthearted moments we could all appreciate.
