MAJOR SNUB? US women’s hockey team declines President Trump’s State of the Union invite

From NBC News: The U.S. women’s hockey team said it is declining President Donald Trump’s invitation to attend his State of the Union address, a day after the president jokingly told the U.S. men’s hockey team that he would be impeached if he didn’t also invite the women’s team.

“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal–winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement,” a USA Hockey spokesperson said. “Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.”

“They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment,” the spokesperson added.

This is the first time in Olympic history that the United States has won the gold medal in both men’s and women’s hockey in the same year.

Anti-Trump liberal commentator Keith Olbermann sneered, “It’s official: US Gold Winning Olympic Hockey team declined invitation to be political props for Trump at the SOTU tomorrow. The women, that is. The men are still too stupid, self-absorbed and misogynistic to realize that going, will stick to them permanently.”

Earlier on Monday, Fox News reporter Chad Pergram had shared comments from House Speaker Mike Johnson. He wrote:

Johnson on trying to bring the US gold medal hockey teams to State of the Union tomorrow night: We’ve got to figure out logistics. There’s no way to have special guests on the floor because it’s a literal session of Congress and you know that’s what’s good about rules. But we’re going to work and do what we can to accommodate.

We certainly want to have them here for the celebration. It’s quite a feat. The men’s and women’s hockey teams. We’re trying to work out logistics to see if there’s some way to perhaps get them into the gallery and the doors, wave and receive the applause that they’re due. We’re working on logistics.
