From the Tallahassee Democrat: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a partnership with Turning Point USA to ensure high school students in Florida start campus chapters of the conservative youth organization, founded by political commentator Charlie Kirk, who was slain in early September.

At an Oct. 27 press conference in Sarasota, DeSantis said any high school student who wants to start a Club America chapter, the high school chapters for Turning Point, should be able to start one. If any issues arise, DeSantis warned that Florida officials will get involved.

“You’re starting to see more young people take an interest and be educated, and now they want to get involved,” DeSantis said. “So they’ve had a huge groundswell of interest ever since that tragic day.”

DeSantis pointed to the state attorney general and warned, “Any school or school district that does try to discriminate, that man right there will probably first send you a nastygram and then drop the hammer.”

“Club America is a new student-led organization designed to mobilize high schoolers to advocate for American values, freedom, free enterprise, and limited government,” DeSantis said.

TPUSA Students reacted, writing, ” BIG NEWS: Governor DeSantis just announced a partnership with @TPUSA to launch Club America chapters across every high school in Florida! 🇺🇸 Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas warned: anyone who blocks a student or teacher from starting a chapter “will be met with the full force of the law.” What an amazing way to continue Charlie’s legacy 🤩”

TPUSA Club America Enterprise Director Nick Cocca also cheered the move. Club America is the Turning Point USA branch for high schools.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier had already announced in September, “Turning Point clubs foster an environment for healthy discourse on topics impacting our country and citizens. If public schools try to unlawfully shut down these student groups, we will take appropriate legal action.”

Erika Kirk praised DeSantis for his announcement while speaking at a TPUSA college campus event in Mississippi Wednesday night.
