FROM NY POST: Firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene insisted Sunday that she still supports President Trump despite his epic takedown of her — while simultaneously questioning his MAGA bona fides in a madcap interview.
While making overtures to end her red-hot feud with Trump, 79, Greene, 51, repeatedly slammed the president, accusing him of not being focused enough on the US and putting Americans first.
Greene had been one of Trump’s most outspoken backers in Congress. But over recent months, she seemingly soured on him and periodically took swipes at Trump, pressing him to focus more on domestic issues. On Friday, Trump went nuclear on her, yanking his endorsement of her for reelection and accusing her of going “far left.”
“I do support him and his administration, and I support them in delivering the campaign promises we made to the American people,” Greene (R-GA) told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “His remarks, of course, have been hurtful.”
Greene claims the feud between her and the president is over their disagreements about the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“Unfortunately, it has all come down to the Epstein files,” she said about the falling out. “I stand with these women. I stand with rape victims, I stand with children who are in terrible sex abuse situations, and I stand with survivors of trafficking. I will not apologize for that.”
But just as she has over the past few weeks, she used the interview to criticize Trump on several issues, including having Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa (who in the past was affiliated with extremist groups) to the White House last week, his support of H-1B visas, and his overseas trips.
Trump “laughed and joked with Al-Sharaa in the Oval Office – despite the fact the Muslim leader has long been sanctioned as a specially-designated global terrorist,” the Daily Mail reported.
“The Saudi-born leader joined al-Qaeda in Iraq just before the US invasion in 2003. He was captured by American forces and imprisoned for five years until 2011 – and there has been a $10 million bounty on his head since,” the Mail further explained.
“I can disagree with the president at times, especially this past Monday, on the Marines’ 250th anniversary, when he honored the new Syrian president, who is an Al Qaeda terrorist and was wanted by our government for years,” Greene said. “I think that was very hurtful to the great men and women who served over in the Middle East and were sent there, and many of them that were killed and injured and live with PTSD to this day, from fighting al Qaeda.”
CNN host Dana Bash asked if Greene was more “America First” than Trump, but she would not go that far. Instead, she hit Trump over “promoting H1B visas to replace American jobs, bringing in 600,000 Chinese students to replace American students,” saying those “are not America first positions.”
Greene said she would “love to see Air Force One be parked and stay home, and there be nothing but a constant focus in the White House on a domestic agenda that helps the American people once and for all.”
Meanwhile, Trump says Greene has been unhappy with him because he no longer takes her calls, and because he “sent her a Poll stating that she should not run for Senator, or Governor, she was at 12%, and didn’t have a chance.”
Bash asked Greene if she thought she could make amends with the president and whether she felt she had a future in the GOP if she couldn’t.
“I certainly hope that we can make up. And, you know, again, I can only speak for myself. I‘m a Christian and one of the most important parts of our faith is forgiveness. And that’s something I’m committed to,” Greene said. “That‘s why I can easily come on your show that is watched all over the world, and I can say things I‘m sorry for, and I can try to set an example of how I think we should move forward as Americans. And so, of course, on my end, I believe in that. And I certainly hope to see that happen.”
