From the New York Post: Catholic schools across New York City are falling like dominoes thanks to skyrocketing tuition prices and a deteriorating connection to religion, according to experts and dismal statistics.

In just the past month, a shocking seven institutions announced they would be shutting their doors for good at the end of the academic year — following 13 others that fell to the same fate in the years since the pandemic, battered by overall enrollment plummeting a jaw-dropping 23%.

The newly announced closures mean 12% of the Catholic schools that operated in the five boroughs in 2020 will no longer exist by the summer.

That’s not even counting the half-dozen other Catholic schools that merged with other schools to bolster their quickly diminishing ranks.

Robert DiNardo, director of the Institute for Catholic Schools said of the falling enrollment that prompted the closures, “They’re not really turning away from Catholic schools — it’s that they can’t afford it.”

However, James Wolfinger, dean of the School of Education at St. John’s University, said it’s more than that, as he noted that people simply aren’t as connected to the church.

Responding to the report, one conservative X user gave another reason why she wouldn’t send her children to a Catholic school.

Angelea Bruzzese wrote, “I WOULDN’T SEND MY CHILDREN TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL UNDER THE CURRENT POPE COUPLED WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCHES COMPLICITY IN ACTING AS NGOS TO FOIST ILLEGALS INTO EVERY AMERICAN COMMUNITY WITH THEIR OWN TAXES 🤨🖕.”
