From the New York Post: A grand jury is convening Wednesday afternoon to consider charges against former national security adviser John Bolton over his alleged sharing of highly sensitive classified materials on a private email server, The Post has learned.
The proceeding comes two months after federal investigators raided Bolton’s Maryland home and Washington, DC office in search of evidence in the Trump critic’s alleged theft of “highly sensitive national security” information.
Justice Department officials expect an indictment to be handed up either Wednesday or Thursday, with one telling The Post the case against the 76-year-old is “air tight.”
Bolton is accused of using his private email account to remove sensitive information and record diary-like notes of his daily activities and assessments throughout his time in office, sources told The Post.
Last Friday, citing unnamed sources, MSNBC reported that Bolton would likely be indicted this week.
Bolton, 76, briefly served as Trump’s national security advisor in the first Trump administration, from April 2018 until Trump fired him on September 10, 2019. He later turned into a staunch Trump critic, and has written a “tell-all” book, titled, “The Room Where It Happened.”
The first Trump administration had opened an investigation in 2020 about “Bolton’s alleged use of a private email to send classified national security documents to his wife and daughter from his work desk before his dismissal by Trump in September 2019.”
The Biden administration closed the investigation in 2021, but now the new Trump administration has reopened it.
CNN reported Wednesday morning that the DOJ is investigating Bolton’s emails and “dairy-like” notes Bolton made in an AOL account while he was serving in the Trump administration.
Sources tell CNN prosecutors are looking at diary-like notes in John Bolton’s emails from when he served as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser. CNN’s @BrianAbelTV has the details. #CNN #News pic.twitter.com/bvX6Ukopzs

This week, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino re-posted a statement he originally wrote on X in December.
“What did John Bolton do with all of his yellow notepads that he ALWAYS took copious notes on in the Cabinet Room, Oval Office, Situation Room, traveling abroad, etc., etc., etc.?” Scavino asked.
