From The Hill: President Trump said late Thursday that he is “very disappointed” with the conversation he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin and reiterated that he made “no progress” in ending the three-year war in Eastern Europe.

“I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don’t think he’s there. I’m just saying, I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad,” Trump told reporters late Thursday night after landing back in Washington after his rally in Des Moines, Iowa.

Trump also told reporters he plans to speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.

Earlier Thursday, Trump said he made “no progress” during his call with Putin in brokering a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

“We had a call. It was a pretty long call. Talked about a lot of things, including Iran. And we also talked about, as you know, the war with Ukraine, and I’m not happy about that,” Trump said. “I didn’t make any progress with him today at all.”

Putin had expressed the importance of that call earlier in the day, rushing from a forum in Moscow to get to the prescheduled time with Trump. Putin apologized for leaving early as there was still a lot to talk about, but he said he didn’t wish to make Trump wait and risk offending him.

During the gaggle, Trump was asked about the Defense Department halting shipments air defense missiles and munitions to Ukraine.

“We’re giving weapons … and we’re working with them and trying to help them. But we have — you know, [former President] Biden emptied out our whole country giving them weapons. And we have to make sure we have enough for ourselves,” the president said.
