LEFT’S REVENGE: FCC chair scheduled to testify over Jimmy Kimmel suspension

FCC Chair Brendan Carr will testify before the Senate Commerce Committee, led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), after facing criticism for pressuring Disney and ABC over Jimmy Kimmel’s remarks about Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson.

“The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said, implying that Robinson could have been a pro-Trump Republican. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

Two days after his Sept. 15 monologue, Carr condemned Kimmel’s remarks as “truly sick,” arguing the FCC has grounds to hold Kimmel, ABC, and Disney accountable for spreading misinformation. He said Kimmel deliberately tried to mislead the public into thinking Kirk’s killer was a pro-Trump supporter.

ABC suspended Kimmel’s show that day, reinstating him on Sept. 23 after a week. Then, Sen. Cruz likened Carr to a mob boss, calling his comments “dangerous as hell.”

Carr and the other two commissioners are scheduled to testify before the committee in November, although the date has not been finalized and may be subject to change. While some Republicans praised Carr’s tough stance, others, echoing Cruz, argued the government shouldn’t police free speech. Carr maintains his remarks were misconstrued and not a threat to ABC affiliates’ licenses or deals.

Additionally, the committee will also hold a separate hearing this month on alleged Biden-era censorship.
