The network suspended Moran for violating its objectivity and professionalism standards, then chose not to renew his contract, which was set to expire shortly afterward. As a result, liberal television host Jon Stewart erupted in frustration on his podcast, calling ABC’s decision “so stupid” and labeling the network “a f‑king joke.” He criticized ABC for maintaining a false elite neutrality, especially after settling a $15 million defamation case over Trump coverage. Following his departure, Moran announced he’ll continue journalism independently on Substack, pledging to confront “important work” amid national turmoil.
