The Israel Defense Forces pulled back to their positions under the ceasefire agreement with Hamas after briefly resuming combat in response to alleged violations by the terrorist group.
Earlier Sunday, the IDF struck “dozens” of Hamas targets, including weapons sites and tunnels, after militants in Rafah reportedly fired on Israeli troops with an anti-tank missile. Though the renewed clashes appeared to shatter the truce less than 10 days after it began, the IDF announced Sunday afternoon that the ceasefire has been “renewed.”
“In accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and following a series of significant strikes in response to Hamas’ violations, the IDF has begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire, in line with the terms of the agreement,” they said in a statement.
Israel warned it would “respond firmly” to any further ceasefire violations by Hamas after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered “strong action” against the group. Along with airstrikes, Israel halted humanitarian aid and closed the Rafah border crossing “until further notice” after Hamas failed to return the remains of 28 hostages—both key terms of the ceasefire deal.

Hamas fired an RPG at an IDF bulldozer in Rafah, and a Hamas sniper also fired on an IDF engineering vehicle in the same area.
