LAST LAUGH: Stephen Colbert gets axed, Dems get livid

Left-leaning comedian Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show will sign off for the last time in May 2026, a fact that’s upsetting fans and making some on the left suspicious.

On Thursday, he told his audience, “Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May.”

“It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of the Late Show on CBS,” he continued. “I’m not being replaced, this is all just going away,” Colbert added.

The long-time host didn’t have long to process the news, according to the Daily Mail. They report: Stephen Colbert learned that his iconic TV show was going to be canceled just one day before he broke the news to fans.

The left-wing comedian told his audience Thursday that ‘just last night’ he was informed by bosses at CBS and Paramount of the bombshell decision to end The Late Show in May 2026.

CBS and Paramount executives say they ended the show for “purely a financial” reason “against a challenging backdrop in late night.”

Some republicans have commented on the news.

“Colbert abandoned the precious gift of making everyone laugh in favor of nasty pandering to deranged leftists,” wrote Buck Sexton, the co-host of The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show. “It was selfish and cowardly. He richly deserves the cancellation of his s***** show.”

Author Joel C Rosenberg said Colbert’s “left wing woke approach to comedy — not funny at all — has killed the franchise that David Letterman built so hilariously.’

Meghan McCain offered some advice to another late-night talk show host, Jimmy Fallon.

“If Jimmy Fallon and his team were smart they would start inviting prominent republicans on as guests and treat them like humans,” she advised.

On the other side of the aisle, Democrats are not happy about the host’s fate as the news came days after Colbert, an outspoken critic of Republicans, especially President Donald Trump, made fun of CBS over the network’s $16 million settlement with Trump, calling it a “big fat bribe.”

Fox News reports:

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said the public “deserves to know” whether CBS’s decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Thursday was politically motivated.

“Just finished taping with Stephen Colbert who announced his show was cancelled. If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better,” Schiff wrote.

Warren wrote, “CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery. America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons. Watch and share his message.”
