Former Vice President and failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris returned to The View on Tuesday and addressed her controversial 2024 appearance, which was marred by her failure to distinguish herself from the unpopular former President Biden.
Promoting her new memoir 107 Days, Harris reflected on that viral moment from last year when she was asked by Sunny Hostin if she would have done anything differently than Biden, to which she replied, “There is not a thing that comes to mind.”
Additionally, in her new book, Harris writes: “I had no idea I’d just pulled the pin on a hand grenade.” She also noted that her staff “were beside themselves” over her answer, realizing she had handed a “gift to the Trump campaign.”
The viral snafu was addressed verbally by Harris on The View today a year later, when she told the table of hosts the following: “I thought it was obvious and I didn’t want to offer a difference in a way that would be received or suggested to be a criticism… I thought I was making the point, and I realize now that I didn’t fully appreciate how much of an issue it was.”
She also explained that during her campaign events, she frequently spoke about the differences between herself and Biden, despite giving a contrary answer to Hostin in 2024. Then Hostin, who reminded Harris that she knew in 2024 Biden was “deeply unpopular,” asked if the appearance had “tipped the election” out of her favor. When Harris replied, she believed it did not hinder her campaign, co-host Joy Behar joked, “Good, because Sunny doesn’t want to take the blame.”
Harris argued that Trump’s 2024 victory was primarily driven by his promise to curb inflation, remarking that “he lied.” She also added the claim that she came very close to defeating him in last November’s election.
