LA Mayor Karen Bass slams capture of Maduro, gets slapped down on social media

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Democrat and a staunch critic of President Donald Trump, posted a statement on X Saturday night, condemning the capture of Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Bass was promptly slapped down by scores of other social media users, and told to stay in her lane.

“The Administration’s reckless decision to strike Venezuela to remove Nicolás Maduro risks chaos, violence, and entrenching the United States in a conflict that the American people did not ask for. Los Angeles will continue to stand for peace, democracy, and diplomacy,” Bass wrote.

One X user fired back, “You do realize they didn’t have democracy in Venezuela under Chavez & Maduro, right? And you also may want to get the hot take from the expat Venezuelan community first before you post. BTW – how’s the rebuild of Palisades going?”

“Let’s start with basic sanitation services and pothole repair for LA. Maybe a competent response to fires too,” another person mocked.

“You’re a mayor, you run a city, not foreign policy. Stay in your lane! Also…kudos on defending a brutal dictator,” yet another X user mocked.

“Think of all the Venezuelan refugees that can soon go home. This is great news,” wrote David Hartt.

“You seriously need to resign. SMH,” declared CEO Greg Berry.

Several social media users are telling Bass she might should first check with all the Venezuelans who are celebrating in the streets.
