Capitol Police responded to a reported security concern at DNC headquarters, which was later deemed a non-credible bomb threat.

The scare came amid heightened tensions in Washington after conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination in Utah.

“This afternoon, there was a bomb threat to DNC HQ that was determined to not be credible by the U.S. Capitol Police,” a DNC spokesperson said. “Out of an abundance of caution, Capitol Police is conducting an interior sweep of the building. As DNC Chair Ken Martin has said, political violence in every form has no place in our country. We are grateful to the U.S. Capitol Police and DNC building security for responding quickly and professionally.”

Senate staff were alerted that Capitol Police were investigating a possible threat at DNC headquarters. Police said they were notified at 1:07 p.m. EDT and searched the building and the surrounding area, but found nothing outside.

“USCP officers immediately responded and are currently checking the building and surrounding areas,” the police said. “So far nothing has been found outside. We are checking inside of the building out of an abundance of caution.”

The threat followed the assassination of conservative commentator and Trump ally Charlie Kirk in Utah, which left lawmakers on edge amid rising political violence. A suspect and motive remain unknown. Additionally, earlier today, several HBCUs were evacuated after receiving calls with threats.
