A man busted for torching two Tesla Cybertrucks has now been released from jail, so he can receive ‘gender-affirming’ care, which he conveniently just started around the same time period as the arson attack.
From Breitbart: A federal judge ordered that the suspect behind the firebombing of a Tesla dealership in Kansas City, Missouri, be released from federal custody ahead of his upcoming court date.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Jessica Hedges agreed that Owen McIntire, 19, a student at the University of Massachusetts Boston, should be released after McIntire’s lawyers “argued” he be released, noting that “he has no criminal record” and that he has “strong ties to his community in Missouri,” according to KMBC News.
McIntire’s lawyers also argued that he be released, noting his “medical and mental health needs.”
McIntire has reportedly “been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder,” Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, and gender dysphoria, according to court records.
McIntire is accused of using Molotov cocktail devices to set a Tesla Cybertruck on fire at the Kansas City dealership on the night of March 17. The fire then spread to a second Cybertruck, destroying it as well. The two vehicles were valued at $105,485 and $107,485.
He reportedly committed the attack while he was home on spring break from the University of Massachusetts. Investigators were able to track him down through traffic cameras, GPS, cellphone records, history from McIntire’s UMass badge and surveillance footage from Kansas City International Airport.
But now Judge Jessica Hedges has set McIntire free ahead of his upcoming court date. His attorney had argued that he should be released, due to “serious and ongoing medical needs and treatments that could not or would not be provided while in federal detention.”
The defense filing said McIntire is being treated for depression, and since March, has been receiving treatment for ‘gender affirming care,’ which would likely be interrupted or terminated in federal custody. (The Tesla firebombing was also committed in March.)
“By moving back home with his parents, he will have access to the care providers who are familiar with him and his specific needs,” McIntire’s attorney wrote.
