ISRAEL’S ATTACK ON IRAN: Reactions from US politicians

Reactions are starting to pour in on social media from members of the U.S. Congress and other political figures, in response to Iran’s airstrikes against Iran.

Israel has dubbed their attacks on Iran’s nuclear program “Operation Rising Lion,” and said they had no choice but to take action, as they had evidence Iran was getting closer to developing a nuclear weapon.

The operation, conducted early Friday morning local time, involved about 200 fighter jets, and multiple top Iranian military officials and scientists were reportedly eliminated in the attacks.

Below are just some of the statements being shared on social media from American politicians:

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who has repeatedly voiced his support for Israel, wrote, “Our commitment to Israel must be absolute and I fully support this attack. Keep wiping out Iranian leadership and the nuclear personnel. We must provide whatever is necessary—military, intelligence, weaponry—to fully back Israel in striking Iran.”

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) was more critical of Israel’s timing in launching the attack on Iran, but said, “I commend the Trump administration for prioritizing diplomacy and working to curb Iran’s nuclear program, and for refraining from participating in tonight’s actions.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) released the following statement:

For too long, the mullahs in Iran have publicly aspired to wipe the only democracy in the Middle East off the face of the map via any means possible: funding and arming terror groups on Israel’s borders, choking off international sea lanes, and multiple barrages of missiles and drones. Just today, Iran was found once again to be in violation of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations, which is unacceptable. Iran must never gain access to a nuclear weapon. Today, Israel has determined that it must take decisive action to defend the Israeli people. The United States Senate stands ready to work with President Trump and with our allies in Israel to restore peace in the region and, first and foremost, to defend the American people from Iranian aggression, especially our troops and civilians serving overseas. Iran should heavily consider the consequences before considering any action against Americans in the region.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) “Tonight, I ask every American to join me in praying for the safety of U.S. personnel in the Middle East and the safety and success of Israel as it takes action against a leading state sponsor of terrorism and our shared enemy, Iran.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.): “Iran said they would not dismantle their advanced centrifuges. That was a giant middle finger to President Trump. Tonight, we saw the consequences of Iran’s defiance.”

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC): “Israel has the right and responsibility to defend itself against Iran’s growing nuclear capabilities. We must support Israel’s right of self-defense and keep our troops safe in the region.”

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) wrote:

“Join me in praying for Israel and the protection of Americans in the region and around the world. President Trump gave Iran an option for peace, but the regime proved it cannot be trusted by continuing to enrich its nuclear supply.

“This enrichment is only possible because the Biden administration refused to enforce sanctions on the world’s largest sponsor of terror that has American blood on its hands. Make no mistake, Iran cannot threaten the United States with nuclear weapons.”

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) wrote: “People are wondering if Iran will attack American military personnel or interests throughout the region because of Israel’s attack on Iran’s leadership and nuclear facilities.

“My answer is if they do, America should have an overwhelming response, destroying all of Iran’s oil refineries and oil infrastructure putting the ayatollah and his henchmen out of the oil business.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY): “The U.S. stands strongly with our ally and partner Israel. Iran, the world’s largest sponsor of terror, must NEVER achieve nuclear weapons capability. The Iranian terror regime has proven that it can never be trusted.

“May God Bless Israel & the brave IAF soldiers as they protect their national security and the world’s safety.

“I know President Trump’s top priority is protecting the American people, our brave U.S. service members, and our national security by ensuring the full dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear program to ensure they can never develop a nuclear weapon.🇺🇸 🇮🇱.”

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) wrote: “We stand with Israel, fully and without hesitation. Iran was days away from a nuclear weapon. They fund terror and want Israel wiped off the map. Israel has the right, and the duty, to fight back.

“We pray for Israel, we pray for all Jews around the world, we pray for our U.S. military deployed overseas tonight. God bless each and every one. America must never flinch. 🇺🇸🇮🇱”

Former Vice President Mike Pence wrote, “Iran must never be allowed to obtain a usable nuclear weapon. The Mullahs in Tehran refused to dismantle their nuclear program. Now it must be destroyed. Our prayers and unwavering support are with Israeli Forces. America Stands With Israel🇺🇸🇮🇱.”

Earlier on Thursday, hours before Israel launched their attack, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley had written:

“Believe Iran when they say they will only strengthen their nuclear program in response to being called out for breaking the rules. Snap back sanctions should be the bare minimum. Now is the time for action. We need to cut off their funding and shut down their nuclear ambitions.”
