Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office is dodging rumors she plans to leave Congress.
NBC News reported she’s expected to “make an announcement” about her future after Tuesday’s election, with sources predicting she’ll retire at the end of her term. But Pelosi’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital nothing about her stepping down or future plans.
“Speaker Pelosi is fully focused on her mission to win the Yes on 50 special election in California on Tuesday,” Pelosi spokesperson Ian Krager said. “She urges all Californians to join in that mission on the path to taking back the House for the Democrats.”
“Yes on 50” is a Democratic campaign urging California voters to let the legislature bypass the state’s nonpartisan redistricting commission and draw a new congressional map favoring Democrats in the 2026 midterms. The effort, led by Gov. Gavin Newsom—a potential 2028 presidential contender—comes in response to Texas approving a GOP-leaning map for next year’s races.
One unnamed California House Democrat told NBC News, “I think she’s out. She’s going to go out with Prop 50 overwhelmingly passing, and what a crowning achievement for her to do that.”
Nancy Pelosi will not seek reelection in 2026.

At least two Democrats have entered the race for Pelosi’s California 11th District seat: state Sen. Scott Wiener, who announced his campaign last month, and Saikat Chakrabarti, former chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Pelosi has been a dominant force in U.S. politics for decades, serving as Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. She first entered Congress in 1987 after winning a special election to succeed the late Rep. Sala Burton (D-CA).
