INSANITY: Police arrest conservative journalist as anti-ICE protesters gather in Portland [DML responds]

From Fox News: Conservative journalist Nick Sortor was captured on video being taken into custody in Portland, Oregon, during another night of chaotic protests outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility.

The arrest came after the Portland Police Bureau said it was “monitoring the protest during the evening and observed some protest participants engaging in fights.”

“The Post Millennial” investigative reporter Katie Daviscourt said on X that police “announced they were making targeted arrests following several scuffles,” and that, “Sortor was being targeted by Antifa shortly before.”

“At about 8:09 p.m., PPB Dialogue Officers (DLOs) observed two men fighting near the ICE building driveway. The DLOs called in additional resources and officers were responding when the fight ended following one participant being knocked to the ground. He did not lose consciousness and never requested medical help,” the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement. “Both involved were detained by federal law enforcement and were later released. Neither party indicated they wanted to make a police report.”

Sortor was not involved in the above-mentioned scuffle, which was between a man wearing a Charlie Kirk “freedom” shirt, and an anti-ICE protester.

However, in the press release, the Portland Police then added:

PPB continued to monitor the situation and responded after seeing additional fights break out. At about 11:16 p.m., RRT moved in and arrested three people were arrested and all booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) on charges of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree:

Angela Davis, 49, of Vernonia, Oregon
Nicholas Sortor, 27, of Washington, DC
Son Mi Yi, 43, of Portland

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, who was also on the scene, shared a video of Sortor grabbing an American flag Antifa rioters had set on fire, and putting the fire out. Melugin wrote:

Last night at the Portland ICE building, we witnessed anti-ICE protesters burning an American flag. @nicksortor then grabbed it from them, put the flames out, and took away what was left of the flag. Nick was arrested later in the night by Portland PD after videos appear to show him surrounded by anti-ICE protesters. It’s unclear what exactly happened, we are working on getting in touch with him once he is released from custody.

We had seen Nick get surrounded and verbally threatened by protesters the previous night. He posted on X that he felt Portland PD would arrest him if he tried to defend himself.

Journalist Mark Wilson posted a video of Sortor being arrested.

Sortor was released from jail later Friday morning, and Melugin posted the following update:

Just spoke on the phone with @nicksortor after he was released from custody. He tells me he’s been charged with disorderly conduct. I asked what happened?

He says he was getting video of protesters getting maced by federal agents, which was embarrassing video for them as they were “crying” etc. He says they then swarmed/surrounded him, pushed him down into a flower bed, and someone threw a punch. Nick says he swung back and missed, then disengaged and walked over to a group of Portland PD.

He says he was then shocked to be arrested by them, and he sat in the back of a police cruiser while officers figured out what to charge him with.

I asked him about the female protester who was also arrested with him. He said he talked to her in the jail and she didn’t seem like she was the one who assaulted him.

Sortor is fighting back – hard.  Sharing a video of his arrest from last night, he just blasted out a fierce warning:

Hey @PortlandPolice: you made a big freaking mistake. You PROVED what we’ve all been saying for years: you’re CORRUPT and CONTROLLED by violent Antifa thugs who terrorize the streets. You thought arresting me would make me shut up and go away. You couldn’t have been more wrong. Stay tuned.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott chimed in, writing, “FREE NICK SORTOR. Arrest criminals not journalists. Maybe we just need to shut down Portland for good.”
