From the Washington Examiner: First lady Melania Trump’s new documentary is set to outpace projections and open to the best weekend for any documentary in over a decade.

The eponymously titled Melania was expected to open to around $5 million across 1,778 screens, according to the Hollywood Reporter. However, the film is doing better than expected with a gross of around $8 million despite negative reception from film critics.

The film’s audience is primarily women and older viewers; 72% of the film’s audience on Friday comprised of women over the age of 55, and 78% of all viewers were older than 55.

President Donald Trump heralded the film’s “BLOCKBUSTER” success on Truth Social, while the first lady celebrated the film’s biggest opening for a documentary in over 10 years. She also spotlighted the film’s “A” rating from CinemaScore, saying it is “loved by all.”

Dr. Robert Jeffress, a pastor of a large church in Dallas, Texas, shared a photo on X of a group of women from his church who all wore replicas of the dress Melania Trump wore on Inauguration night.

“Some of our “church ladies” at the new movie MELANIA that includes my prayer for the President and First Lady!” he wrote.

Elon Musk offered his congratulations.
