From the Daily Caller: An Olive Garden cook died after plunging his head into a deep fryer on Jan. 30, The Smoking Gun (TSG) first reported Thursday.
The victim, who has yet to be identified, reportedly stripped his clothes after arriving at the Williamsport, Pennsylvania restaurant before thrusting his head into one of the kitchen’s fryers. In an emergency call recording obtained by TSG, the dispatch officer stated that he “doesn’t have a lot of details” and mentions “people screaming” in the background.
“I don’t have a lot of details, a lot of people screaming,” the operator stated. “Some kind of a burn victim.”
“A male victim went headfirst into the fryers,” he continued.
The Smoking Gun, who first reported on the horrifying incident, also posted an audio of the police dispatch call.
TSG reported that police and emergency workers arrived at the restaurant around 4:00 PM, after receiving 911 calls about an employee removing his clothes and attempting to harm himself.
Another restaurant worker, and at least one patron in the restaurant, had tried to stop the deranged man from continuing to dip himself into the hot oil. A second ambulance was then sent to treat the female worker who suffered minor burns.
The man was taken to the hospital, and reportedly, ultimately succumbed to his injuries. According to some reports, he was “high on PCP,” a drug also known as “angel dust.”
One person posting in the comments section of the Smoking Gun report, Bryn Bailey, wrote, “My friend was eating there at the time and was the patron who restrained him to keep him from going back in the fryer. Had to throw his jacket away because the man’s skin got burned onto his jacket. People were saying he was high on PCP or something.”
The case was also discussed on Reddit, and one person commenting on the police dispatch audio said he works at the restaurant, and tried to help stop the man from going into the oil. The worker wrote:
I work there. It happened. Fucking nightmare fuel. Screaming women. Five males on staff and one is jumping into the fryer. He was on PCP and something possessed him to believe the fryer was water. In a restaurant full of ice and fountains and sinks. I pulled him out three separate times, as he fought to go back in. No noise from him…only three words. ” I’m cool bro” face melting and ass in oil when I told him to get the fuck out. I’m jealous of anyone who wasn’t there. I pray you never see anything like it.
