From the Washington Examiner: Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) on Monday filed the first articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in his second term.
Thanedar, who also received a second primary challenger on Monday, filed seven articles for alleged abuse of power, constitutional violations, and tyranny.
“Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as president and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy,” Thanedar said in a statement. “His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act.”
A resolution outlining the seven articles filed by Thanedar cites allegations that include denial of due process, unlawful deportations, defiance of court orders, misuse of the Justice Department, bribery and corruption for dismissing criminal cases and soliciting foreign emoluments, threatening military invasion against sovereign nations, and dismantling congressionally established agencies.
Rep. Shri Thanedar, 70, was born in India. He came to the United States in 1979 to attend the University of Arkron in Ohio, and became a U.S. citizen in 1988.
Thanedar first served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2021 to 2023. He has served in the U.S. Congress since January 2023. He also made an unsuccessful run for governor of Michigan in 2018.
Now he wants to impeach the President of the United States.
Thanedar posted a video on X Monday afternoon, announcing his effort in broken English with a strong Indian accent.
“I have introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump. When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not “fighting for America.” He is tearing it down and endangering our democracy,” he wrote.

In another post, Thanedar added, “Trump’s attacks on due process, birthright citizenship, humanitarian aid, and the courts are not “politics.” They are a direct attack on our democracy. Enough is enough – I am introducing articles of impeachment against him.”

People born in other countries shouldn’t be allowed to serve in Congress. This should be the same as the Presidency
