Country star Morgan Wallen has donated $500,000 to support victims and relief efforts after Hurricane Helene devastated parts of the southeastern U.S., including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Virginia.
In an Instagram Story, the 31-year-old singer shared that his family in East Tennessee is safe, but acknowledged that many others across several states have been “absolutely devastated.”
“It is going to take a monumental effort and I am in contact with my team and others working on ways I can help,” he added.
According to a Daily Wire report, Trevor Riggin, the National President for Humanitarian Services at the Red Cross, publicly thanked Morgan Wallen for his generous donation through the Morgan Wallen Foundation.
“We can’t thank Morgan Wallen enough for his heart and generous $500,000 donation to impact help on the ground now in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene, including his beloved East Tennessee,” said Riggin.
Hurricane Helene made landfall late last week, and by Tuesday, the Associated Press reported at least 150 deaths across several states. This included 30 fatalities in the county where Asheville, North Carolina, is located.
Wallen’s donation is the first major celebrity contribution to hurricane relief efforts, according to People magazine. A GoFundMe authorized by former President Donald Trump has also raised donations, with large contributions from singer Kid Rock and UFC’s Dana White.
