From Fox News: New York Attorney General Letitia James will appear in federal court in Norfolk, Virginia, Friday morning to be arraigned on a two-count indictment stemming from statements she allegedly made about the nature of a second home she purchased in 2020.
James’ arraignment is the latest in a string of prosecutions brought against the president’s perceived political foes, despite objections from career prosecutors — some of whom have since been fired or resigned.
James was indicted on two federal counts of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution.
The indictment stems from her 2020 purchase of a home in Norfolk, Virginia, where prosecutors allege that she misled a bank about the nature of the residence in order to obtain more favorable loan conditions.
According to the indictment, James purchased the home in Norfolk on or about August 17, 2020. Soon after the purchase, her great-niece and family reportedly moved into the home.
When James purchased the property, she allegedly told her mortgage broker that she expected to use the house as a second home, which allowed her to get a lower interest rate on the mortgage. Instead, she used it as a “rental investment property, renting the property to a family,” the indictment states.
It has since been reported that the great-niece who James allegedly allowed to live in the property rent-free ,is a “fugitive” from North Carolina.
James is expected to plead “not guilty” during her arraignment on Friday.
Following the indictment, James had blasted out a video statement declaring her innocence and raged, “This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system. I am not fearful — I am fearless. We will fight these baseless charges aggressively…!”
James was seen leaving her Brooklyn home on Thursday to travel to Virginia, ahead of her arraignment.
