GUTHRIE UPDATE: AZ officials to release photo of potential person of interest

From NBC News: Authorities are expected to release a surveillance photo showing a potential subject in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, according to two senior law enforcement officials.

The photo could be released as soon as this afternoon, the senior law enforcement officials said.

Guthrie’s family reported the 84-year-old missing around noon Feb. 1 after she did not show up for virtual church services. She was last seen the previous night, around 9:45 p.m., after having dinner at the home of her daughter Annie Guthrie in Tucson, Arizona, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

The FBI is assisting with the investigation and has been seen conducting operations outside Guthrie’s home.

Multiple media outlets received ransom notes after Guthrie’s disappearance, demanding $6 million in bitcoin. The ransom note had set a deadline of 5pm on Monday, which has now passed.

Fox News has reported that it appears investigators don’t believe the ransom notes were legitimate, and may have come from someone just trying to profit off the case.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department had announced on Monday, “Investigators have not identified any suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles connected to Nancy Guthrie. Anyone who believes they have information that may assist investigators is asked to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or the PCSD non-emergency line at 520-351-4900, or 88-CRIME.”
