A prominent Jewish leader and international human rights lawyer, Arsen Ostrovsky, was among the victims of the horrific terror attack on the Bondi Beach in Australia Sunday afternoon.

Two gunmen opened fire on a large group of people on the beach, including those participating in a Jewish holiday celebration. At least 12 people were killed, and 29 more were injured in the massacre.

One of the gunmen has already been identified as 24-year-old Naveed Akram, allegedly an immigrant from Pakistan.

Ostrovsky, a prominent social media commentator and chair of the Israel Australia Jewish Council, survived the shooting, but was shot in the head. He shared a photo of himself lying on the ground, his head and face covered in blood. Several of his acquaintances have shared the horrifying photo on social media.

Loay Alshareef shared the photo and wrote, “Please pray for my brother Arsen Ostrovsky, who was injured in the terrorist attack in Australia. I’ve known Arsen for years, and I am praying to God to grant him the same strength He gave to Judah and the Maccabees in the face of their enemies. To the bastard terrorists behind this evil act: you will fail, just as Antiochus failed.”

Ostrovsky also recently served as chair of the International Legal Forum, and is a longtime contributor to The Jerusalem Post.

In an interview with the media, Ostrovsky said he lived in Israel for 13 years, and survived the October 7, 2023 massacre. He and his family only came to Australia two weeks ago to work in the Jewish community and fight antisemitism.

In a twist of irony, Ostrovsky’s most recently post on X, before he was shot on the beach, was about Israel eliminating Hamas weapons chief Ra’ad Sa’ad, one of the main architects of the October 7th massacre in Israel.

Just two weeks ago, Ostrovsky was cited in a report by the Jerusalem Post about anti-Israel graffiti found on Bondi Beach. In the report, he warned about the “alarming surge in Jew-hatred since October 7, including the defilement of Australian landmarks being hijacked as platforms for intimidation and incitement against the Jewish community.”

“Australia cannot allow this kind of hate to fester or become normalized,” he had warned.
