From NY Post:
A yellow Labrador turned into a frozen pupsicle when he plunged through thin ice into a frigid Rhode Island lake during a morning walk — but was rescued in a dramatic, caught-on-camera moment.
The pooch named Phoenix was left doggy-paddling in the freezing water in Westerly at about 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day after wandering away from his owner and into the middle of the pond.
He slipped through a thin layer of ice and immediately became trapped, authorities said.
Footage captured the daring rescue as a firefighter, wearing a protective suit, bravely banged through the ice to reach the frightened pup, who was patiently waiting for to be rescued.
“It was the chillest dog I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Steve Howard, deputy chief of the Misquamicut Fire Department. “The dog never made a sound. He was pretty chill.”
Phoenix had no injuries.
“He got a little bit of extra food last night,” Howard said. “And he took a little nap.”
The Misquamicut Fire Department posted on Facebook about the rescue, saying, “No ice is ever safe. Our firefighters train extensively for cold water and ice rescues, but these situations are extremely dangerous.”
