FROM TUCKER TO GAETZ & MTG: Multiple political individuals come forward about Charlie Kirk’s evolving view on U.S ally

There’s a growing number of voices speaking on certain pressures Charlie Kirk was facing from big-time donors about his evolving mindset on a certain allaince; the conversation began with the voices of Candace Owens, Megyn Kelly, and Tucker Carlson, and is now reaching Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and even Vice President JD Vance, and it’s growing.

Candace Owens, a longtime close friend and former collaborator with Charlie Kirk, recently detailed on her podcast the intense pressure Kirk faced from major Turning Point USA (TPUSA) donors during a private Hamptons luncheon in early August 2025.

Owens described the gathering as a tense “intervention” where Kirk was confronted over his growing criticisms of Israel’s influence in U.S. politics and his decision to platform vocal Israel skeptics like Tucker Carlson and comedian Dave Smith at TPUSA’s Student Action Summit in July. According to Owens, the main figures pressuring Kirk included billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, who allegedly urged him to visit Israel and align more closely with pro-Israel stances, and Seth Dillon, CEO of The Babylon Bee, who reportedly expressed frustration over Kirk’s evolving views. Owens claimed Kirk confided in her about feeling “blackmailed” by offers of substantial funding tied to changing his position, though he ultimately refused a direct invitation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit and receive financial support for TPUSA.

This Hamptons meeting, Owens asserted, marked a pivotal moment in Kirk’s “spiritual transformation,” where he began distancing himself from unconditional support for Israel amid concerns over its actions in Gaza. Just weeks after the luncheon, around mid-August 2025, Kirk appeared on The Megyn Kelly Show, where he vented frustration about being labeled antisemitic for his measured criticisms of Israel’s policies, insisting that questioning foreign influence did not equate to hatred of Jews. Kirk emphasized his personal study of biblical Hebrew and his book on Shabbat as evidence of his respect for Jewish traditions, while decrying the weaponization of antisemitism accusations to silence debate.

In a more recent interview airing this week, Tucker Carlson sat down with Megyn Kelly. He revealed private communications from Kirk about his shifting views on Israel, particularly Kirk’s repeated expressions of dislike for Netanyahu, whom he saw as a “destructive force” exploiting U.S. support. Carlson recounted Kirk confiding that he was “appalled” by events in Gaza and resented Netanyahu’s perceived use of American resources for Israel’s wars, marking a clear evolution from Kirk’s earlier staunch pro-Israel advocacy. Kelly agreed with Carlson’s assessment, noting that Israel has become deeply unpopular among conservatives under 30, who prioritize America First policies over endless foreign entanglements. This revelation from Carlson’s interview amplified the controversy, prompting several of Kirk’s close allies to speak out in confirmation of his changing stance.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, a fellow Trump ally who was once his nominee for Attorney General and vocal critic of interventionist foreign policy, posted on X agreeing with Carlson and stating he had “personal knowledge” of Kirk’s evolving viewpoint, including Kirk encouraging Carlson to expose alleged Mossad ties to Jeffrey Epstein and expressing torment from pro-Israel donors over Netanyahu and Gaza. Gaetz emphasized that Kirk’s shift was driven by a desire for transparency and accountability, not animosity toward Jews or Israel broadly. Similarly, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shared a screenshot of recent text messages from Kirk inviting her to headline TPUSA’s America Fest in December 2025, where Tucker Carlson is the featured speaker, and explicitly asking her to debate the controversies surrounding AIPAC’s influence. Greene highlighted that this invitation came after her own public calls for AIPAC to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), underscoring Kirk’s openness to critiquing pro-Israel lobbying despite past donor pressures.

With these growing voices from Kirk’s inner circle validating his position shift, the responses from the alleged Hamptons pressurers have been swift but defensive. Bill Ackman issued a lengthy X post vehemently denying Owens’ allegations, calling them “totally false” and “slanderous,” insisting the event was a cordial discussion on young conservatives’ views, not an intervention or blackmail attempt. Ackman detailed how Kirk himself initiated contact and helped organize the gathering, framing it as an educational session on topics like the economy and foreign policy, with no threats or funding offers tied to Israel. Seth Dillon, for his part, responded on X by stating he attended the Hamptons retreat at Kirk’s invitation but was not present for any private meetings, downplaying any pressure and affirming the event’s productive nature without addressing specifics of Owens’ claims. However, skeptics argue that both Ackman and Dillon may be downplaying the encounter’s intensity, given multiple reports from Kirk’s confidants that he repeatedly informed friends and associates in the weeks leading up to his September 10 assassination that he felt immense pressure from TPUSA’s large pro-Israel donors.

Sources close to Kirk, including those cited in The Grayzone investigation, described him as “frightened” by the backlash, including furious texts and calls from Netanyahu’s U.S. allies demanding he “fall back in line” after platforming Israel critics. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz entered the fray with sharp criticism of Tucker’s Megyn Kelly interview, accusing Carlson of antisemitism and labeling him and his “cronies” as haters of “the damn Jews” for amplifying Kirk’s alleged anti-Netanyahu sentiments. Cruz reposted clips and memes mocking Carlson’s “thinly veiled antisemitism,” tying it to broader concerns about rising anti-Israel rhetoric on the right. Responses to Cruz were immediate and pointed, with defenders noting that Tucker has never voiced hatred toward Jews, often expressing admiration for Jewish culture and individuals, and that his critiques focus on specific policies and foreign lobbies, not ethnicity. Critics also pinpointed Cruz’s own financial ties, pointing out he has received millions in campaign donations from pro-Israel lobbies like AIPAC over the years, which they argue creates a conflict of interest. This scrutiny intensified when references surfaced to Cruz’s summer 2025 interview with Tucker, where Cruz openly admitted that one of his top priorities when running for Senate in 2012 was to “defend Israel,” despite Texas being his primary constituency and Israel a foreign nation.

Then on Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance subtly commented on the escalating controversies via an X post, noting the irony of some allies only speaking out after Kirk’s murder despite previously aligning with him on key issues. Vance referenced a recent episode of Kirk’s podcast where he and Tucker headlined as fill-in guests, discussing two elements Kirk had been critical of in the Trump administration: insufficiently aggressive deportation numbers and the risk of entering a “forever war” with Iran following the June 2025 bombing of its facilities. Vance’s post implied that Kirk’s forthright criticisms on these fronts—immigration enforcement and avoiding endless Middle East conflicts—were part of the same principled evolution that drew donor backlash, urging unity in honoring Kirk’s legacy without foreign interference.

These escalations stem from a growing chorus of criticism in the Israeli-American relationship from certain conservative commentators and influencers, who believe the government of Israel is way too influential on policy and decision-making in the U.S. federal government. This has grown expotentially since the announcement of Prime Minister Netanyahu announcing he would be visitng the White House later this month, which would mark his fourth visit to D.C. since the beginning of the Trump presidency.

A notable example of the growing criticism comes from a recent poll posted by Don Trump Jr. where he asks: What’s the greatest domestic terror threat facing America? The eligible responses to choose from are: ANTIFA, TRANTIFA, or “They’re the same thing.” The poll is in reference to Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Kirk, who has left-leaning views and was allegedly dating his transgender roommate, who has also become the identified catalyst to Robinson’s ideology and his motive behind the shooting of Kirk. However, despite these three choices, there are over 8,000 comments under Don Jr.’s poll describing a fourth option, with 99.5% of them (based on an AI analysis) stating the same answer: Israel/AIPAC.
