As President Donald Trump was departing the White House Friday morning for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, U.S. evangelical leader Franklin Graham asked for Americans to pray for our president.
Trump is traveling to meet with Putin – at Putin’s request – in an effort to help negotiate a peace agreement and stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Based on estimates by the United Nations, nearly 14,000 civilian deaths have been recorded in Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022.
Additionally, an estimated 250,000 Russian military members have been killed, and an estimated 50,000 members of Ukraine’s military have been killed.
Trump has stated repeatedly that he wants the killing to STOP.
In a post on social media Friday morning, Graham wrote:
Today is the day. Join me in praying for our President, Donald J. Trump, as he meets with President Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. Pray that God will give President Trump His wisdom that surpasses all understanding. And pray for President Putin, that God would work in his heart to bring peace and an end to the bloodshed.
I believe there will be millions of Christians in Ukraine and Russia praying as well. Peace will benefit not just Russia and Ukraine, but the entire world.
