A resurfaced 2009 video shows Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) falsely claiming he is a “retired Command Sergeant Major” while addressing soldiers from his former division deploying to Iraq, according to a new Breitbart report.
This video emerged after Kamala Harris’s campaign removed references to Walz retiring as a command sergeant major from his official bio, amid a growing scandal. According to Breitbart’s Kristina Wong, Walz’s rank was reduced to master sergeant because he did not complete the requirements to retire as a command sergeant major.
Despite this, Walz has repeatedly claimed the higher rank. In the video, Walz, a 24-year National Guard veteran, refers to himself as a “retired Command Sergeant Major,” a claim now under intense scrutiny and criticism.
This controversy has added to the challenges faced by Harris’s campaign, drawing backlash from media and former service members.

Lying about one’s rank in a farewell message to soldiers deploying is about as dishonorable as it gets. pic.twitter.com/f7AIqPK8ky
