Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe got into a fiery shouting match with a Republican congress member Thursday morning, while testifying before a bipartisan task force on the two assassination attempts against President-elect Donald Trump earlier this year.
The House task force, which was formed in July, has been investigating potential Secret Service failures at both the attempted assassination of Trump at a Butler, PA rally in July and the foiled assassination attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida in September.
The task force, consisting of seven Republicans and six Democrats, is required to submit a final report of its findings no later than Dec. 13, 2024.
The Committee’s final hearing in their investigation, where Rowe was called in to testify, was publicly broadcast, and it got WILD at one point.
“It is essential that we recognize the gravity of our failure on July 13, 2024. I personally carry the weight of knowing that we almost lost a protectee and that our failure cost a father and husband his life,” Rowe testified on Thursday.
“This entire incident represents the failure to meet the expectations and responsibilities of the Secret Service,” he admitted.
Rowe touted that he has made many changes within the Secret Service since the attempts on Trump’s life, including increasing training for agents, streamlining communication with local law enforcement and boosting the size of Trump’s security detail.
The hearing descended into total chaos – or, as some describe it – ‘all hell broke loose’ – when Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Tex.) questioned Rowe about his appearance in a photo of a group dignitaries, including Joe Biden and Donald Trump, at a 9/11 ceremony.
Rowe began yelling that he shouldn’t have to answer such a question, and touted his own rescue efforts on the day of the deadly terror attack.
“That is the day where we remember the more than 3000 people that have died on 9/11. I actually responded to Ground Zero,” Rowe yelled. “I was there going through the ashes of the World Trade Center. I was there!” he screamed.
Fallon tried to interject, saying that wasn’t what he was asking, but Rowe continued screaming, accusing Fallon of being a “bully” and playing politics with 9/11.

Real Clear Politics correspondent Susan Crabtree explained what was behind the issue in a separate post:
The reason that Ron Rowe is getting so defensive and angry with Fallon’s questions about who was next to Pres. Biden during the 9/11 ceremony in New York — is because he personally switched the positions of normal operating procedure so that he himself could be next to Biden for the optics alone.
This caused deep resentment against Rowe within the Secret Service rank and file, according to sources in the Secret Service community who also informed me about this incident.
Normal Operating Procedure is to have the Special Agent in Charge of the President’s regular detail standing next to him at big security events such as the 9/11 ceremony. The reason for this is because that’s the person who regularly protects the president and is operationally up to speed and fully trained.
