FROM DAILY CALLER: The plurality of Americans surveyed in a YouGov poll bought into the false narrative that the alleged assassin of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is a Republican.
Several notable figures rushed to claim that the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was a conservative Christian, though Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and federal authorities later confirmed that Robinson became “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.” The poll found that 24% of all adults have bought into the idea that Robinson is not, in fact, liberal.
In comparison, 21% of all adults believe Robinson was a Democrat, 15% said neither and 40% were unsure, according to the poll.
According to Robinson’s family, he had become more political and hateful in recent years, Fox News reported.
“He hates conservatives and Christians,” said a relative of Robinson’s trans-identifying roommate, and boyfriend, Lance Twiggs. “He hated us. He was not raised that way, but he, over the years, has become really detached [and] been radicalized.”
A disturbing trend in thinking is emerging after the assassination. According to a YouGov, “It is true that liberal Americans are more likely than conservatives to defend feeling joy about the deaths of political opponents. 16% of liberals say this is usually or always acceptable, including 24% of those who say their ideology is very liberal and 10% who say they are liberal but not very liberal. That compares to 4% of conservatives and 7% of moderates.”
From YouGov:
Another question tells a similar story: whether Americans think political violence can ever be justified. Overall, most Americans say violence to achieve political goals is never justified (72%), while just 11% say it can be.
Younger and more liberal Americans are more likely than older or more conservative Americans to say political violence can sometimes be justified, but this remains a minority opinion among these groups. Among the very liberal, 25% say political violence can sometimes be justified and 55% say it can’t; among adults under 30, 19% say it can be justified and 51% say it can’t.
24% percent of Americans believe Charlie Kirk’s shooter, Tyler Robinson, was a Republican, compared to 21% who think he was a Democrat, according to a new YouGov poll.
