From The Hill: Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) expressed concern after President Trump’s behavior Wednesday, after the president confused Greenland and Iceland multiple times during a speech earlier in the day.
“The president has been acting in increasingly erratic ways,” Ocasio-Cortez told Migrant Insider’s Pablo Manríquez on Capitol Hill.
Earlier Wednesday, Trump mistook the two islands for each other during remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“They’re not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you,” the president said, referring to NATO. “I mean, our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland, so Iceland has already cost us a lot of money.”
After the speech, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on X that Trump referred to Greenland as a “piece of ice,” downplaying the mix-up. During his remarks in Davos, the president used the phrase while also mistakenly referring to Greenland as Iceland a few times.
“I’m helping Europe, I’m helping NATO and until the last few days, when I told them about Icelnd, they loved me,” the president said.
Ocasio-Cortez claimed the president’s behavior is “alarming, and everyone’s pretending that this is normal.” She also claimed the issue is deeper than Trump.
“I think that for our European partners and for our global partners, I think what they also see is the result of not just one man, but also the entire government apparatus and a party that is willing to watch someone decompensate in front of the world and do nothing about it,” said the representative from the Bronx. “I don’t know what’s going, but I find it… would be helpful if we could apply an even standard here.”
AOC: The president has been acting in increasingly erratic ways. It is really damning when we think about the degree to which media outlets reported on Joe Biden, yet we are seeing behavior from Trump that is alarming and everyone is pretending this is normal.
