From the border crisis to smaller issues, presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ record, like President Biden’s, has significant shortcomings.
The latest example? A green school-bus initiative.
In 2022, Harris championed a federal plan to spend about $5 billion over five years to build electric school-bus fleets, part of the 2021 infrastructure package signed into law by Joe Biden.
The outcome? Less than 7% of the school districts initially involved in the program have fully transitioned to electric buses.
Numerous districts have exited the program due to opposition from school boards or the high costs of infrastructure upgrades needed to charge the buses.
Financially, the project has proven impractical.
As one superintendent explained, “This only makes economic sense if the bus is paid for with a grant like we received. The cost is so prohibitive that the cost savings are not worth it.”
The Washington Free Beacon, which first reported on the issue, highlighted that electric buses are three times more expensive than traditional ones, and replacing the entire national fleet would exceed $200 billion.
In an older video, Harris expressed her enthusiasm and love for electric school buses:
Kamala Harris: “I’m excited about electric school buses. I LOVE electric school buses. I just love them! For so many reasons. Maybe because I went to school on a school bus. Hey, raise your hand if you went to school on a school bus!” pic.twitter.com/SyzHT5JeiT
